Republican Party - among losers a few possible election winners

The huge audiences watching the debates of Republican Party candidates for…for, is it President of these United States???, seek another Reality TV show and the networks are accommodating them. Spectators wait expectantly for the arguments to turn into a slugging match. How low has the United States political system fallen?

Out of the eleven prospectives, three of them qualify as adequate candidates: Jeb Bush has been a governor and John Kasich and Chris Christie are still governors of large and important states. All have experience and credentials and, unlike those others who held public office, have at least formed thoughts on the issues and displayed responsible behavior toward one another in the two debates. Due to the current public political climate, these three prospectives have scored low in the polls. Other candidates may have qualifications but they have disqualified themselves by a lack of presidential demeanor. Two questions for the presenters to ask themselves of the others:

(1) Would Abraham Lincoln or Theodore Roosevelt sit on a podium with these "wannabes?"
(2) Can any of them be trusted with the responsibility for pushing the ultimate button?

Excepting the three mentioned governors, the candidates, most of whom hosted the American flag in the lapels and recited the usual platitudes of God and country, rather then convincing the American public of their patriotism and dedication, exposed their hypocritical natures, lack of Christian charity and deep rooted antagonisms to the traditions and values associated with American identify. Watching their antics made one lose faith in the American system. After all, the presidency of the world's most major nation is being sought, and therefore it must be assumed the candidates provide the ultimate in related experience, proven intelligence and rules of behavior - character counts.

So, what did we learn?
For sure, Carly Fiorina cannot manage gambling casinos and Donald Trump has never managed or could manage a Fortune 500 industrial corporation. Their prominent attribute for seeking public office is that both know how to deceive - Trump saying anything as if sewers contain vital information and Fiorina, who did show some strong convictions and strength in demeanor, deceiving by challenging the halls of power to react to her distorted version of a Planned Parenthood video and defund the organization. The former Hewlett Packard executive described the video as showing "a fully formed fetus, its heart beating, its legs kicking while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain." A Washington Post Fact Checker article of September 17 states: "No Video Has Surfaced Showing The Scene Fiorina Describes At Planned Parenthood."

Another dubious remark by Ms. Fiorina was a claim that the elusive Iranian, Major General (???) Qasem Soleimani, the media's new Scarlet Pimpernel, convinced Russian President Putin to send arms and material to assist Assad in Syria. How does she know that? Does Carly Fiorina have secret entry to the Kremlin? Is Putin that pliable?

Trump continued attacking those who will not answer by saying China cheats by manipulating the value of its currency, keeping it low in reference to the dollar (more Yuan to a dollar). That's odd; the Yuan was at 6.590 to the dollar at the beginning of 2011, at 6.222 at the beginning of 2015 and in September was at 6.373, which equates to a rise of 1.03 % in its value since 2011, and a fall in its value of only 1.02% during year 2015. During the same four year period, the value of the Japanese Yen, deliberately manipulated by Japan's Central Bank to stimulate eroding exports, has decreased by 50%. No mention of that.

The whole affair must have been rehearsed and staged. Not only were the participants acting but their dress and demeanor, all undoubtedly prepared by expert political advisors, added to the parody. Most of the candidates needed a makeup and reflected poor choices in preparation for their big debates.

These characterizations are subjective and may sound similar to Trump's "put downs," but the writer was surprised by certain careless arrangements that damaged the appearance of each of them. Just opinions and no malice intended:

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, a forceful advocate of Libertarianism and Constitutionalism, exhibited a hairdo that made him look like a scarecrow.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who added excitement to previous campaigns, said nothing but platitudes and his "campaign manager validated the barren statements by stating - "He said he would make people's lives better, make America strong and Americans safer."
Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who has suffered from looking too young and acting too young, continued to look too young and act too young.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz, accused of always playing to the crowd, played to a crowd that was not listening and added a sinister appearance to his drumbeat.
Former Governor Jeb Bush reinforced Trump's disparaging appraisal that this Bush lacks energy by wearing eyeglasses that made him look less energetic.
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who created a dynamic and prominent image in his tussle with unions, faded in the background as a static non-entity.
Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina showed the tough spirit that enabled her to rise from a receptionist to CEO of Hewlett Packard but her stiff demeanor seemed to indicate she was still concerned with how to dispose of the tens of thousands of HP computers lying in warehouses.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie showed flashes of the rough and tumble manner by which he subdues opponents but the attempt to soften this image was an overkill, making him appear more like the genie leaving the bottle.
Pediatrician Ben Carson never showed himself more politically aware than the tens of thousands of other pediatricians, and only indicated that his role in the Oval Office will be to give medical advice to children of government workers.
Real Estate Magnate Donald Trump continued with his thrust, which was that if he behaves his normal obnoxious self he will be favored by the American people.
Ohio Governor John Kacish mistakenly shed his non-conformist approach and appeared too conventional in dress and talk, a turnoff to the present voting public.

Republican Party leaders hope the polling votes will not translate into primary votes and the primaries will select the most qualified candidates, who seem to be either Jeb Bush, John Kasich or Chris Christie. Two out of three of these choices on a Republican ticket may be difficult for a moribund Democrat Party to beat. With Hillary Clinton being yesterday's news and Bernie sanders being too futuristic, the Democrat Party may be wise to run the old faithful - Vice President Joe Biden who never loses - and Senator Elizabeth Warren who is a proven winner. Isn't winning elections what the political system is all about?
